“The music of MAR de GRISES invites to a desolate trip through the endless movement of our lives. Bitter feelings and the diverse forms in which the man expresses them are intermingled with the most various musical elements to create an intense sonorous film, where moving emotions emerge from overwhelming atmospheres.” With a transverse aesthetic in music genres, and salvaging some of the most romantic poetry of their country, MAR DE GRISES (Sea of Grays) have broken barriers of distance and prejudice and have helped bring Chile worldwide recognition in the Doom and Avant-garde Metal scene. It seems unusual, but this young South American band had already signed with Firebox Records just after the release of the Demo (2002), as it was making its debut in Europe and across the world. At the beginning of 2004, “The Tatterdemalion Express” attained considerable acclaim for its unique and graceful soundscapes, and by 2005 the band was travelling around the world giving exclusive concerts in France, Germany, Holland, Spain, Belgium and Italy, including a stellar participation at the famed Doom Shall Rise III Festival, in Germany. Since then, Fans and media all over the world have lauded the band’s original and honest efforts. Four years have now passed since then and “Draining the Waterheart” is the long awaited step forward from their first album. This is not by any means the same song over and over again. Musical elements of diverse styles are back to conjugate themselves into an inviting and unique trip through our most intense feelings. The bitter taste of Doom and the roughness of Death Metal intermingle with the delicate sensibility of Post Rock and all unite with the versatility of the progressive symphonic. As this procession continues, an emotive aura seems to prevail and our illusions hide between endless melodies.
